2.6.3. Features of operation of the cars equipped with the automatic transmission (AT)

On the cars considered in the present manual 4-staged AT with electronic control is established. The lever of the AT selector is located in the lower part of the central console.

AT selector lever, principle of switching of the modes

Selector lever conclusion from situation "P" can be made only at the included ignition, the squeezed-out pedal of a foot brake and the pressed fixing removal button.

It is not necessary to increase engine turns at the chosen mode of advance or back and the pressed brake pedal. Switching of transmission from situation "N" / "P" in working provisions has to be made on single turns of the engine, - hold a pedal of a foot brake of pressed!

Indicators of position of the AT selector

The lever of the selector of ranges of transmission can be in one of six fixed provisions.

Emergency unblocking of the lever of the selector in situation "P".

In structure of a combination of devices of the models equipped with automatic transmission the additional indicator lamps allowing the driver are built in it is easy to control position of the selector of ranges of AT (see the Section Combination of Devices, measuring instruments, control lamps and light indicators).

Purpose of provisions of the lever of the AT selector

Start of the engine is possible only in provisions "P" and "N" of the lever. If the stop of the car is made when AT is in one of ranges of the movement ("D", "2", "L", "R", or "N"), it is necessary to release completely the accelerator pedal and to squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake, or to cock the parking brake.

When translating the lever of the selector in any of provisions of the movement surely squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake of situation "N".

Situation "P"

Before an exit from the car do not forget to cock the parking brake also.

Extraction of a key from the lock of ignition becomes possible only after transfer of the lever of the selector to situation "P".

In this position of the lever of the selector blocking of transmission and driving wheels of the car is made. A transfer of transmission to parking situation has to be made only after a full stop of the car.

Moving of the lever of the selector to situation "P" during the movement leads to blocking of driving wheels, and also is accompanied by risk of serious internal damages of transmission!

For a conclusion of transmission of situation "P" it is necessary to squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake and to press the button removals of fixing on the lever.

Situation "R"

This position of the lever of the AT selector is used for the movement by a backing.

Switching of transmission in situation "R" during advance is accompanied by risk of serious internal damages! If the backing does not join after a full stop of the car, squeeze out a brake pedal and slowly move the selector lever at first to situation "N", then to situation "R".

Situation "N"

In this provision of AT of a wheel and transmission are not blocked and the car can be moved freely, a swing method at any position of the transfer case.

Use situation "N" at start on the run of the decayed engine, and also at short stops of the car with the working engine. If there is a need for an exit from the car, do not forget to transfer the lever to situation "P" previously.

At a lever conclusion do not forget to squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake of situation "N".

Situation "D"

This situation is used in most cases at the movement in the conditions of not loaded city cycle and on highways. In this situation the full range of switching of forward transfers with maintenance of an optimum ratio power/fuel consumption is used, and in the corresponding situations the braking mode the engine automatically joins.

For the purpose of improvement of efficiency of return of not heated-up engine switching of AT the 4th transfer at a temperature of cooling liquid below 70 °C is blocked.

Squeezing of the accelerator pedal with overcoming a point of resistance leads to activation of the kickdown mode leading to automatic switching of transmission to a low gear for the purpose of increase in acceleration performance, for example when overtaking.

Situation "2"

In this situation the range of automatic switchings of transmission is limited to the 1st and 2nd transfers.

It is recommended for selection of bigger power at the movement uphill, and also for braking by the engine on descents. Besides, in this mode the probability of pro-slipping of wheels on a slippery paving decreases. Switching from the 2nd transfer to the 1st happens at a speed of movement lower than 43 km/h. The top limit of speed of the movement in this mode makes 60 km/h.

Excess of the top restriction of the high-speed mode is accompanied by risk of an exit of AT out of operation as a result of an overheat!

Situation "L"

This mode is recommended to use at towage of heavy freights, or the movement on the steep slope. The top limit of speed of the movement in the L mode makes 35 km/h.

Winter mode (HOLD)

When driving with use of the HOLD mode do not exceed the most admissible value of turns of the engine!

HOLD is in fact the winter mode and is recommended to use at a start of motion on a slippery paving, and also for braking by the engine on abrupt descents.

Activation of the HOLD mode leads to change of an algorithm of gear shifting at the movement in position "D" of the lever of the selector, - the range of switchings will be limited to two transfers: "2" and "3", i.e., start-off of the car from the place will be made from the second transfer with the subsequent switching to the 3rd.

Activation of the HOLD mode in provisions "2", "L" and "R" of the lever does not influence an algorithm of switchings of AT in any way.

The button of inclusion of the mode is on the selector lever handle directly under larger button of removal of fixing. Serviceability of activation of the mode is confirmed by turning on of the light indicator which is built in the left side of a combination of devices (see the Section Combination of Devices, measuring instruments, control lamps and light indicators). Shutdown of the mode is made by means of the same button, - the indicator has to go out.

Transition of the alarm indicator of the HOLD mode to the flashing mode is a sign of malfunction of transmission, - address on HUNDRED companies KIA!

Sports mode (POWER)

The switch of the AT sports mode is located on the dashboard, to the right of a steering column (see the Section Governing bodies and the equipment of salon).

At normal driving the sports mode should be turned off, - at the same time gear shifting will be made on the algorithm providing the maximum economy of fuel (the provision of "ESO" of the push-button switch).

Activation of the sports mode (position "POWER" of the switch) is possible only in provisions "D" "2" or "L" of the lever of the selector, and in two last cases the algorithm of switchings of a box will not change. In position "D" of the lever activation of the POWER mode leads to a delay of switching of transmission to the raising transfers, i.e., switching will happen at higher turns of the engine that provides the best dynamics of the car.

Activation of the HOLD mode leads to automatic shutdown of the POWER mode.

Blocking of switchings and emergency conclusion of the lever of the selector from situation "P"

Extraction of a key from the lock of ignition is possible only in position "P" of the selector lever of transmission.

For the purpose of safety of the driver and passengers of AT it is equipped with system of the blocking preventing a possibility of a conclusion of the lever of the selector from situation "P" at the released pedal of a foot brake.

Squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake, start the engine / include ignition, then (without releasing a pedal) press the button removals of fixing on the handle and transfer the lever to required position.

If several times in a row to press and release a brake pedal in the parking provision of transmission, in the field of the lever of the selector there can be a noise which is not a sign of malfunction and should not cause concerns.
