2.6.5. Use of the transfer case

On the cars considered in the present manual the transfer case which is not equipped with interaxal differential is installed in view of what, in order to avoid bystry wear of reduktorny assembly, it is necessary to avoid inclusion of the all-wheel drive modes (4H and 4L) at movement along dry roads with a good covering! Use the all-wheel drive modes only in cases of the valid need, - remember that operation of the car with the connected forward drive is accompanied by increase in fuel consumption, increase in a vibration and noise background and acceleration of degree of wear of tires! Speed of the movement in the mode 4H should not exceed 90 km/h!

General information

The transfer case is intended for distribution of torque between forward and back bridges of the car.

The lever of switching of the modes of the transfer case is located in the lower part of the central console, behind the lever of gear shifting of the RKPP/selector (AT). On models with RKPP the lever allows to choose one of four modes of a box: 2H, 4H, (N) and 4L, on models with AT - one of three: 2H, 4H, and 4L.

At activation of the four-wheel drive (4L or 4H) watch completeness of switching, - incomplete introduction of gear wheels to gearing is accompanied by risk of loss of control over driving!

On the models equipped with vacuum couplings of a free wheeling switching between the modes 2H and 4H can directly be made during the movement of the car with a small speed (up to 40 km/h), and need for squeezing of coupling on models with RKPP is absent.

For activation of the mode 4L it is necessary to stop completely the movement, to squeeze out the foot/parking brake, to squeeze out coupling (models with RKPP) / to transfer the selector lever to situation "N" (models from AT), then to accurately switch the lever of the transfer case to situation 4L (models with AT) / at first to situation N, then to situation 4L (models with RKPP).

Purpose of provisions of the lever of switching of the modes of the transfer case

At incomplete switching off of the transfer case all wheels of the car can freely rotate, - do not forget to cock the parking brake!

N — Only on models with RKPP. In neutral position of the transfer case the drive of both bridges is switched-off. The light indicator which is built in a combination of devices (see the Section Combination of Devices, measuring instruments, control lamps and light indicators) is also switched-off.

In this mode all wheels of the car freely rotate, - do not forget to cock the parking brake!

2H — the Main mode of the transfer case. The drive is carried out only on wheels of the back bridge. The light indicator is switched-off.

4H — the Drive is carried out on wheels of both bridges. The light indicator burns. The mode is intended for movement along roads with a slippery or friable covering (snow, dirt, sand), and also at loss of coupling of wheels with the road during the movement in the mode 2H.

Speed of the movement in the mode 4H should not exceed 90 km/h!

4L — All four driving wheels, a reducer of the transfer case it is switched to the lowering transfer. The light indicator is switched on. The maximum coupling of wheels with the road and the maximum traction effort are provided. It is recommended to make the way if necessary through the site covered with deep snow / dirt / sand and also on especially abrupt rises / descents and at towage of tyazhelogruzheny trailers. The mode is not intended for long use.
