2.6.6. Braking

General information

The principle of functioning and design of components of the brake system are in detail considered in the Head the Brake system of the present manual.

All components of the brake system are essential from the point of view of driving safety. Regularly, according to the established Schedule (see the Head the Current leaving and service), perform procedures of maintenance of the vehicle. The first 200 km (125 miles) of a run after replacement of brake shoes try to avoid sharp braking whenever possible.

At the movement under a bias, in order to avoid an overheat of brake mechanisms, try to carry out braking of the car the engine, including for this purpose a low gear.

After a heavy rain or overcoming water barriers before beginning the movement at a full speed, check efficiency of functioning of brake mechanisms, - the become wet blocks and disks can be quickly dried during several braking at the movement with a small speed.

During towage of the faulty vehicle do not forget that at the killed engine functioning of the vacuum amplifier of brakes stops in view of what each pressing a pedal of a foot brake demands use of bigger effort.

In case of refusal brakes during the movement braking by means of the parking brake is allowed, - you remember that the brake way in this case considerably increases.

Use of the parking brake at the movement of the car with a normal speed can lead to loss of control over management, - try to act as much as possible carefully!

It is not necessary to hold a leg on a brake pedal during the movement, - it is accompanied by risk of an overheat of brake mechanisms and premature wear of brake shoes, and also is capable to influence length of a brake way negatively!

Parking brake

The lever of the parking brake is located on the central console, between front seats. Raisings of the parking brake it is made by procrastination of the lever up to an emphasis. For an otpuskaniye of the parking brake press the button which is built in in a lever handle end face, slightly pull the last for a conclusion of teeths of the ratchet mechanism from gearing up, then, without releasing the button, lower the lever down.

Leaving the car on the parking do not forget to switch besides raising of the parking brake the transmission on 1-yu/reverse the gear (models with RKPP) / to transfer the selector lever to situation "P" (models from AT).

At a stop on rise park the car as it is possible closer to the region of the carriageway and turn out wheels so that at casual rolling they rested against curbstone.

Before a start of motion do not forget to release the parking brake, - the corresponding control lamp on a combination of devices (see the Section Combination of Devices, measuring instruments, control lamps and light indicators) has to go out.

Recommendations about security measures at operation of the models equipped with ABS

ABS does not reduce a brake way of the car and is only capable to provide preservation of controllability of the car in the course of braking. In view of told it is necessary to support constantly a safe distance to ahead the going vehicle, proceeding from the speed of the car and specific conditions of the movement.

ABS does not prevent a side skid at sharp change of the direction of the movement of the car. For example, the car can enter a drift when passing turn at too high speed or at breakthrough of a wheel during change of a lane. Always support safe speed, being conformed with a condition of a paving and traffic conditions.

ABS does not prevent loss of course stability of the car. In the course of emergency brake application avoid sharp breakthroughs of a steering wheel.

The brake way of the equipped ABS car can exceed a little habitual for models with the ordinary brake system. Told especially it is noticeable at movement along roads with fragile and to uneven coverings (gravel, snow), - do not forget in similar conditions to reduce speed and to increase a distance to ahead the going vehicle.

Control lamp of violations of serviceability of functioning of ABS

The structure of system of anti-blocking switched on the self-diagnostics block. Externally the procedure of self-diagnostics of system can be shown in the form of insignificant pulsations of a pedal of a foot brake right after start of the engine. Failure diagnostics of ABS is made also at each braking of the car.

At identification the system of any malfunction activates the control lamp of ABS which is built in in the dashboard (see the Section Combination of Devices, measuring instruments, control lamps and light indicators). Operation of a control lamp during the movement demonstrates ABS shutdown. At the same time operability of the working brake system remains fully, except for function of automatic control of brake effort which is performed by ABS. If the control lamp of ABS does not die away after implementation of start of the engine, or works during the movement, follows at the first opportunity to address on the next HUNDRED.

Joint activation of control lamps of ABS and refusals of brake system / raising of the parking brake also means shutdown of function of regulation of brake effort that indicates existence of malfunctions both in ABS, and in the brake system. At the same time the brake system of the car will continue to provide rather adequate braking of the car, however it is necessary to avoid sharp squeezing of a pedal of a foot brake.
