4.5.4. Check and adjustment of valvate gaps

This procedure is among those which performance does not demand removal of the engine from the car. Implementation of the procedure has to be made on the cold engine.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove an intermediate cooler of system of pressurization of air (Intercooler) (see Power supply systems, managements of engine/decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases and production of the fulfilled gases).
  2. Uncover a head of cylinders.
  3. Having turned a bent shaft so that cams of the drive of inlet and final valves on distributive to a shaft were developed by working ledges up, bring the piston of the first cylinder into the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression.
1 — the Cam of the drive of the inlet valve
2 — the Cam of the drive of the final valve
  1. By means of the probe of lezviyny type measure the size of valvate gaps, write down result.
  1. Turning a bent shaft in the normal direction, repeat the procedure for the remained valves, passing from the cylinder to the cylinder as ignition.
  2. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications of the Head Dvigatel, in case of need make the corresponding adjustment.

Adjustment

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Arrange the camshaft so that the cam of the drive of the inlet valve which is subject to adjustment was developed by a working ledge vertically up.
  2. For the purpose of simplification of access to an adjusting washer, develop a pusher of the valve risky towards the inlet pipeline.
  3. By means of special adaptation wring out a pusher down and, having used the small screw-driver, or other suitable tool, take an adjusting washer.
Extraction of an adjusting washer.
1 — the Adjusting washer
2 — Pushers
3 — Inlet
4 — Final
  1. Having made necessary calculations, pick up a new adjusting washer of the required thickness, put her in a pusher and repeat check.

When calculating of the required thickness of a new adjusting washer it is necessary to use the following formula:

H1 = H0 (dM - dS)

Where:

H1 — the Settlement thickness of the required washer

H0 — Thickness of the removed washer

dM is Size of the measured gap

dS — the Nominal size of a gap

For example:

Let:

H0 = 4.00 mm, dM = 0.30 mm,

dS = 0.25 mm,

Example of collecting initial information when calculating of the required thickness of a new adjusting washer

1 — the Cam of the drive of the inlet valve
2 — the Adjusting washer
3 — the Valvate gap

Then:

H1 = 4.00 (0.30 – 0.25) = 4.05 (mm)

Adjusting washers of three dimensional ranges go on sale: 3.400 ÷ 3.650 mm and 4.350 ÷ 4.600 mm with a step of 0.050 mm and 3.700 ÷ 4.300 mm with a step of 0.025 mm (only 37 options). Thickness of a washer can be determined by the code number which is beaten out on it: so, the washer with number 3825 has thickness of 3.825 mm.
