1.8. Diagnostics of malfunctions

The description of diagnostics of electronic control systems and diagnostic codes are provided in the Head of the Power supply system, management of engine/decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases and production of the fulfilled gases (engine), and also in Heads Automatic transmission, the Brake system and Onboard electric equipment (AT, ABS/EBD, SRS and an immobilizer).

In this section the simplest scheme of clarification of the reasons of the malfunctions and refusals happening in knots and systems of the vehicle is offered. Refusals and their possible reasons are broken into groups on a sign of the relation to certain components or systems of the car, such as the engine, the cooling system, etc., besides, in the text references to chapters and sections concerning these problems are given.

Remember that the successful completion of search of causes of defect is defined by a combination of a certain knowledge and patient, systematic approach to a problem research. It is necessary to move always from simple to difficult, to bring each check to the logical end and to try not to pass the obvious facts - everyone can forget to fill fuel in the fuel tank or to leave included in lighting fixtures for the night.

And at last, it is always necessary to try to make a clear picture of development of malfunction and to take the corresponding steps for prevention of a recurrence. If the failure of electric equipment happened for a cause of infringement of quality of contact, check a condition of all other contacts and electric sockets of system at the same time. If the same safety lock several times in a row continues to fuse, there is no sense in its further replacement - it is necessary to try to find out a cause of failure. Remember that failure of a minor component can be a sign of violation of functioning of more important knot or the whole system.

Engine

Basic checks at the complicated start of the engine

If the engine is not started, it is necessary to try to analyse a situation coolly.

Petrol models

Visual survey

Estimate an external condition of all electrical wiring in a motive compartment, make sure of lack of signs of violation of integrity of isolation, oxidation and weakening of fastening of contact connections. Check whether is not present in the assembly block of the beaten-out safety locks, whether will burst the case of the rechargeable battery. Further it is necessary to make sure of correctness of laying, serviceability of a state and reliability of fastening of vacuum hoses, - in case of need address data of information label of VECI (see in the Section Identification numbers and information labels). Do not forget to check also for existence of signs of development of leaks components of an inlet air path.

Mechanical checks

If during visual survey it is not possible to reveal any obvious violations, it is necessary to make check of compression pressure in engine cylinders. The description of check is provided in the Section Check of Compression Pressure, assessment of a condition of cylinders.

One more important check which is among mechanical is check of passability of a final path of the engine. Check can be made by means of the manometer, or the vacuum gage. In the first case it is necessary to turn out the warmed-up lambda probe, or the control valve of system of admixture of air in an exhaust (depending on a complete set). Screw to the place of the removed component the manometer with a range of measurement of 0 ÷ of 0.35 kgfs/cm2 and start the engine with turns 2500 in a minute, - if counter-pressure size in a final path makes more than 0.14 kgfs/cm2, therefore passability violation takes place, - most likely the catalytic converter. When using the vacuum gage connect it to the vacuum union of the inlet pipeline, start the engine and consider the indication of the measuring instrument. Partially slightly open and record a butterfly valve, - slow falling of depth of depression after stabilization of turns will also demonstrate violation of passability of a final path.

Checks of serviceability of supply of fuel

Before performance of the most part from the listed below checks it is necessary to make dropping pressure in a power supply system, - the description of the procedure is provided in the Head of the Power supply system, management of engine/decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases and production of the fulfilled gases. Before start of the engine after dumping of pressure in a power supply system it is necessary to execute preliminary filling of its path, - such filling will allow to reduce significantly duration of a necessary provorachivaniye of the engine a starter. The description of the procedure is provided also in the Head of the Power supply system, management of engine/decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases and production of the fulfilled gases.

At this stage of basic diagnostics it is necessary to make the following checks (see Power supply systems, managements of engine/decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases and production of the fulfilled gases):

Checks of serviceability of functioning of system of ignition

First of all it is necessary to make sure of serviceability of sparking on spark plugs, - it is the best of all to make check by means of a special tester. At identification of violations measure the specific resistance of VV of an electrical wiring, - the result of measurement should not exceed values 16 kOhm/m.

Further it is necessary to make check of serviceability of giving of food on the coil of ignition and to measure resistance of primary and secondary contours of the coil (see the Head Sistemy of electric equipment of the engine).

Diesel models

Treat number of conditions which performance guarantees success of start of any diesel engine:

First of all it is necessary to make sure of serviceability of a starter, then to check supply of fuel, a nozzle and work of a preliminary incandescence. The description of the procedure of check of a condition of candles of an incandescence is provided in the Section Check of Candles of an incandescence of the Head Sistema of electric equipment of the engine.

The engine is not turned in attempts of its start

  1. Corrosion of plugs of the battery takes place, or fastening of tips of wires on them weakened.
  2. The battery is discharged or faulty: in the absence of violations on the previous point, turn a key of "ignition" in position of ON, then include headlights and/or screenwashes, - the refusal of correct functioning of electric devices confirms the fact of excessive decrease in level of a charge of the battery.
  3. Transmission it is inexact it is established in situation "P".
  4. Conducting in a chain of system of start is torn off or fastening of wires on plugs weakened.
  5. The gear wheel of a starter is jammed in a gear wreath of a driving disk.
  6. The traction relay of a starter is faulty.
  7. The starter is faulty.
  8. The ignition switch is faulty.

The engine is turned, but not started

Petrol models

  1. Start is incorrectly made. Act as follows:
    • Cock the parking brake, squeeze out coupling and include neutral transfer (RKPP) / transfer the selector lever to situation "P" or "N" (AT);
    • Without squeezing out the accelerator pedal, turn a key in the ignition lock to the right against the stop. As soon as the engine is started, at once release a key. If start of the heated-up engine is not possible to make at a provorachivaniye it a starter within more than 4 seconds, it is necessary to squeeze out the accelerator pedal slowly. Do not turn the engine more than 30 seconds in a row, before repeated attempt wait not less than 15 seconds;

  2. The engine immobilizator (is faulty or is not disconnected at the corresponding complete set).
  3. The safety lock of the electric fuel pump or electronic system of injection is faulty.
  4. The fuel tank is empty, or is fuelled by low-quality.
  5. The air filter is strongly polluted.
  6. As a result of violation of tightness to the inlet highway air podsasyvatsya, losses of depression in a vacuum path take place.
  7. Losses of depression in elements of air supply, malfunction in a control system of injection of fuel and ignition take place.
  8. The battery is discharged (engine provorachivaniye turns are insufficient).
  9. Terminal connections of the battery are oxidized, or their fastening weakened.
  10. The fuel pump is faulty, or its relay is damaged, - aurally check serviceability of activation of the pump at inclusion of ignition.
  11. Are damaged, or components of system of ignition are excessively moistened.
  12. Spark plugs are worn-out or faulty, or the candle gap is incorrectly exposed.
  13. The electrical wiring of system of start is torn off or disconnected, or fastening of wires on plugs weakened.
  14. The ignition coil electrical wiring is torn off or disconnected, or fastening of wires on coil plugs weakened.
  15. The safety lock of the control unit of the engine is damaged, the CKP/pulse sensor the sensor (CMP)/sensor of temperature of cooling liquid (ECT)/sensor of temperature of the soaked-up air (IAT) is faulty.
  16. Compression pressure is not enough.
  17. In the engine excessively dense oil is filled in.

Diesel models

Track that during functioning of system of a preliminary incandescence (the control lamp is included) all onboard consumers of the electric power (light, heating of back glass, radio and so forth) were disconnected.

  1. Start is incorrectly made. Act as follows:
    • Cock the parking brake, squeeze out a coupling pedal, on models from AT transfer the selector lever to situation "P" or "N". Turn a key of "ignition" in situation 2 and wait for shutdown of a control lamp of preheat. As soon as the lamp goes out, make start of the engine, without squeezing out the accelerator pedal.

At a temperature of external air above +5 °C need for a preliminary incandescence of the engine is absent.

  1. The engine immobilizator is faulty.
  2. The safety lock of the preliminary electric fuel pump or system of preheat fused.
  3. The engine is not heated-up: check serviceability of functioning of the device of preheat.
  4. On the electromagnetic locking valve there is no tension. Connect to the switch the voltmeter or a sampler on a light-emitting diode, - at inclusion of ignition the light-emitting diode has to light up, otherwise it is necessary to find and eliminate break in an electrical wiring.
  5. The electromagnetic locking valve (FCV) is faulty. Check reliability of fastening of the electromagnetic switch, estimate a condition of contacts. Switch on and off ignition, - in the switch the click has to sound.
  6. Damage to lines of supply of fuel takes place, or in the last air got:
    • Fuel-supply lines are mechanically damaged, or their passability is broken, - clean fuel lines and remove from them air, also remove air traffic jams from the fuel filter;
    • The fuel filter is littered, - replace the filtering element;
    • It is necessary to check the filter and pipelines for existence of signs of formation of ice or wax in the winter, - drive the car into the heated garage, add to system of gasoline;
    • Passability of a path ventilation of the fuel tank is broken, or the mesh filter of a toplivozabornik is littered, - clean the corresponding components.
  7. Passability of a returnable fuel path is broken.
  8. The fuel filter / filter of the fuel tank is littered
  9. Adjustment of the moment of the beginning of supply of fuel is brought down.
  10. Nozzles are faulty, - at an otpuskaniye of a nipple nut of a fuel-supply line of a faulty nozzle turns of the engine will not fall.
  11. The fuel pump of high pressure (FPHP) is faulty.
  12. Compression pressure is not enough.
  13. In the engine excessively dense oil is filled in.

The starter functions without engine provorachivaniye

  1. The starter gear wheel is jammed.
  2. Teeths of a gear wheel of a starter or wreath of a flywheel are worn-out or damaged.

Start of the cold engine is complicated

  1. The battery is discharged, or the level of its charge is insufficient.
  2. Serviceability of functioning of components of a power supply system, or electric equipment is broken.
  3. Sedimentation of paraffin in the filter of thin purification of fuel (diesel models) takes place, - warm up, or replace the filtering element, fill the car with winter diesel fuel, or add to a tank low-octane gasoline in the ratio 1/3.
  4. Glow plugs of the diesel engine are faulty.

Start of the hot engine is complicated

Treat to the section Heated-up Engine badly it is started, works unstably.

  1. The air filter is littered.
  2. Serviceability of functioning of components of a power supply system, or electric equipment is broken.
  3. Fuel does not arrive to injectors/nozzles of system of injection.
  4. The corner of an advancing of supply of fuel of the diesel engine got off.
  5. TNVD of the diesel engine is faulty, or its adjustment is broken.
  6. Compression pressure in cylinders is not enough.

Gearing of a starter happens is too noisy or with difficulty

  1. Teeths of a gear wheel of a starter or wreath of a flywheel are worn-out or damaged.
  2. Bolts of fastening of a starter are lost, or the effort of their tightening weakened.

The engine is started, but at once becomes deaf

  1. The engine immobilizator is faulty.
  2. The electrical wiring is faulty, or fastening of wires on plugs of the coil or the generator weakened.
  3. Violation of serviceability of functioning of components of a power supply system or electric equipment takes place.
  4. Basic installations of the module of management of the engine (ESM) are broken.
  5. Damage to system of release / the catalytic converter has places.
  6. Losses of depression on the throttle case, the inlet pipeline or through vacuum hoses take place.
  7. Insufficiently compression pressure.
  8. Adjustment of turns of idling is broken.
  9. Passability of a returnable fuel path of the diesel engine is broken.
  10. Too early shutdown of candles of an incandescence of the diesel engine takes place.
  11. The corner of an advancing of supply of fuel of the diesel engine got off.
  12. TNVD is faulty.
  13. The electromagnetic fuel valve of the diesel engine is jammed in the provision of "RUN".

Stability of operation of the engine on single turns is broken

At unstable turns of the engine (for example, at admissions of ignition) in order to avoid failure of the catalytic converter try to turn on the engine only for a short time and do not allow excessive loadings, - at the first opportunity drive away the car on HUNDRED companies KIA.

Petrol models

  1. Depression losses take place. Make sure of reliability of an inhaling of fixing bolts / nuts, check the fact and quality of fastening on the unions on the inlet pipeline of all vacuum hoses. Wiretap the working engine by means of a stethoscope or a piece of a fuel hose. Existence of the hissing sound will allow to reveal a source of "leak" of vacuum, - it is possible to use solution of soap water for check not less effectively.
  2. Tightness of landing of the inlet pipeline on a head of cylinders is broken.
  3. Laying of a head of cylinders is punched, - perform measurement of compression pressure in engine cylinders (see the Head Dvigatel).
  4. GRM drive components are worn-out.
  5. Working ledges of cams of the camshaft are worn-out.
  6. The engine is overheated.
  7. Passability of the valve of system of ventilation of a case is broken.
  8. Leaks via the valve of system of the fulfilled gases (EGR) take place.
  9. Violation of serviceability of functioning of components of a power supply system or electric equipment takes place.
  10. Passability of the air filter is broken.
  11. The fuel pump does not provide giving of enough fuel to injectors of system of injection.

Diesel models

  1. Quality of connections of fuel hoses on TNVD and the fuel filter is broken.
  2. Fastening of TNVD weakened.
  3. Are mixed by junctions of the returnable pipeline and pipeline of supply of fuel.
  4. Damage to lines of supply of fuel takes place.
  5. Passability of a returnable fuel path is broken.
  6. Adjustment of turns of slow idling is broken.
  7. Air got to a power supply system, - "pump over" system.
  8. Adjustment of the beginning of supply of fuel is brought down.
  9. Nozzles are faulty, - at an otpuskaniye of a nipple nut of a fuel-supply line of a faulty nozzle turns of the engine will not fall.
  10. The fuel pump of high pressure (FPHP) is faulty. Establish new, or obviously serviceable TNVD for check.

  6. There is not enough or compression pressure is distributed between cylinders unevenly.
  7. The system of ignition is faulty.
  8. Losses of depression on the throttle case, the inlet pipeline or through vacuum hoses take place.
  9. The valvate mechanism is worn-out.
  10. Adjustment of phases of gas distribution is broken.
  11. Passability of the inlet pipeline is broken.
  12. Adjustment of the beginning of supply of fuel of the diesel engine is brought down.
  13. The car is filled with diesel fuel of bad quality.

The engine spontaneously becomes deaf

  1. Adjustment of turns of idling is broken.
  2. Passability of the fuel filter is broken, or moisture or dirt got to a power supply system.
  3. The refusal of components / information sensors of a power supply system takes place.
  4. Components of systems of decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases are faulty.
  5. Spark plugs are faulty or polluted or the candle gap is incorrectly exposed (see the Head the Current leaving and service). At the corresponding complete set check also a condition of VV of an electrical wiring.
  6. Losses of depression on the case of a throttle or through vacuum hoses take place.

The engine does not develop full capacity

  1. Malfunction of components of a power supply system or electric equipment takes place.
  2. The air cleaner is littered, or passability of an inlet air path is otherwise broken.
  3. Spark plugs are faulty or the candle gap (petrol engines) is incorrectly exposed.
  4. The ignition coil (petrol engines) is faulty.
  5. The ATF level fell (see the Head the Current leaving and service).
  6. Transmission revolves.
  7. The fuel filter is blocked and/or dirt/moisture got to a power supply system.
  8. Fuel not of that grade is filled.
  9. The adjusting valve of a turbocompressor (is damaged at the corresponding complete set).
  10. Insufficiently compression pressure, or uniformity of its distribution between cylinders is broken.
  11. Valves are jammed, or valvate springs weakened.
  12. Laying of a head of cylinders is punched.
  13. Coupling revolves (models with RKPP).
  14. The engine is overheated.
  15. Depression losses take place.
  16. Working ledges of cams of the camshaft are worn-out.
  17. Installation of phases of gas distribution is broken.
  18. Leaks in the fuel pump take place.
  19. Passability of system of production of the fulfilled gases is broken.

In addition for the diesel engine

  1. The EGR valve is faulty.
  2. The fuel filter or TNVD/nozzle is littered.
  3. The valve of a cover of the fuel tank (is littered at the corresponding complete set).
  4. Passability of a fuel path on the site between TNVD and the fuel tank is broken.
  5. Passability of a returnable fuel-supply line is broken.
  6. Uniformity of supply of fuel in cylinders is broken, - adjust on the heated-up engine.
  7. The moment of the beginning of supply of TNVD fuel is incorrectly determined.
  8. Adjustment of the maximum frequency of rotation of a bent shaft is broken.

There are cottons in system of an admission or shots in system of release

  1. Serviceability of functioning of components of a power supply system or electric equipment is broken.
  2. Defect in a secondary contour of system of ignition of the petrol engine (destruction of insulators of spark plugs or damage of VV of an electrical wiring) takes place.
  3. The system of injection of fuel needs adjustment, or its components are excessively worn-out.
  4. Losses of depression on the throttle case, the inlet pipeline or through vacuum hoses take place.
  5. Gets jammed valves.
  6. Installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition, for example, as a result of the wrong connection of VV of an electrical wiring is broken.
  7. The EGR valve is faulty.
  8. The regrown poor air-fuel mix comes to cylinders.

At the movement with acceleration or uphill there are detonation sounds

  1. Low-quality fuel is filled.
  2. Serviceability of functioning of components of a power supply system or electric equipment is broken.
  3. Spark plugs not of that type (petrol engines) are established.
  4. The basic ECM installations are broken.
  5. The detonation sensor is faulty.
  6. Depression losses take place.

The engine continues to work after turning of a key in situation 0

  1. Idling turns are excessively high.
  2. Malfunction of electric equipment, components of management or the locking fuel valve (diesel models) takes place.
  3. Serviceability of functioning of the valve of a purge of an adsorber of system of catching of fuel evaporations (EVAP) is broken.
  4. Working temperature of the engine is excessive. Decrease in level of cooling liquid, failure of the thermostat, blocking of a radiator or malfunction of the water pump can be the possible reasons of this violation.

The exhaust of the diesel engine excessively smoke-filled

  1. Black smoke:
    • The air cleaner is polluted, - wash out and fill with fresh oil or replace the filtering element;
    • Inappropriate fuel is applied, - wash out a tank and replace fuel;
    • The moment of the beginning of giving of TNVD is incorrectly determined, or the pump is faulty;
    • Tightness of the valve of a nozzle is broken. Check work of nozzles at the stand, if necessary sort and grind in the valve, or replace a nozzle assembled.
    • The EGR valve is faulty.
  2. Blue smoke:
    • Oil gets to the combustion camera(s) owing to wear of piston rings, its presence at the air cleaner, wear of epiploons in covers of a turbocompressor, formation of thinnesses in laying between a block case and a turbocompressor, - repair the engine, replace epiploons, tighten bolts of fastening of a turbocompressor or replace laying;
    • Supply of fuel to one of nozzles is broken, - check on heating of final branch pipes of a collector;
    • Quality of dispersion of fuel by a nozzle owing to malfunction of the valve or break of a spray is broken, - grind in the valve or replace a nozzle.
  3. White or brown smoke:
    • Temperature of cooling liquid is insufficient, - check the thermostat;
    • Serviceability of functioning of nozzles owing to wear or break of a spray is broken, - replace a spray.

Engine electric equipment

Procedures of diagnostics of an electronic control system and codes of malfunctions are provided in the Head Sistemy of electric equipment of the engine.

Decrease in capacity or insufficient battery charging takes place

  1. The driving belt of the generator is worn-out or damaged, or adjustment of its tension is broken.
  2. Electrolyte level is insufficient, or the battery is strongly discharged.
  3. Corrosion of plugs of the battery takes place, or fastening of tips of wires on them weakened.
  4. The generator does not provide the required charging current.
  5. The electrical wiring of a charging contour is torn off or is in any other manner damaged, or fastening of wires on plugs weakened.
  6. The short circuit of an electrical wiring creating continuous leak on "mass" of the current developed by the battery takes place.
  7. Internal defect of the battery takes place.

The control lamp of a charge does not die away after start of the engine

  1. The driving belt of the generator is weakened/is worn-out.
  2. Fastening of contact plugs of an electrical wiring of the generator weakened.
  3. Short circuit in a power-supply circuit of a control lamp takes place.
  4. The stator, or diode assembly of the generator is damaged.
  5. Tension regulator is faulty. Disconnect a wire (D+) from a reverse side of the generator and include ignition, - if the control lamp does not light up, it is necessary to check a condition of the regulator of tension.
  6. Coal brushes are worn-out.
  7. The wire between the generator and the regulator of tension is damaged.
  8. The combination of devices is faulty.

The control lamp of a charge does not light up when turning a key in the provision of "ON"

  1. Fused or otherwise actually control lamp on the dashboard failed.
  2. The generator is faulty.
  3. Defect of the printed circuit board or electrical wiring in the block of a combination of devices takes place, or the cartridge of a lamp is damaged.
  4. The corresponding safety lock is beaten out if that is provided.
  5. Short circuit of an electrical wiring in the generator takes place.
  6. The vypryamitelny bridge of the generator is faulty.

The control lamp of a charge does not die away when turning a key in situation 0

  1. Diodes are punched.

System of start

Contact plugs of an electrical wiring have to be reliably fixed and are not oxidized!

  1. If the starter is not turned, first of all it is necessary to make sure of presence of necessary tension (at least 10 V) on the plug No. 50 of the traction relay. At negative results of check estimate an electrical wiring condition.
  2. For check of serviceability of operation of a starter at a full tension of the battery perform the following operations:
    • Not including transfers, turn a key in the provision of "ON";
    • Peremknite starter plugs 30 and 50 wire with a section not less than 4 mm2.

If now the starter works faultlessly, the cause of defect should be looked for in a condition of its electrical wiring, otherwise remove a starter and bring him to HUNDRED for check in stationary conditions, previously having made sure of lack of signs of oxidation of contact plugs of connection of an electrical wiring.

The starter does not rotate

  1. The battery is discharged.
  2. Peremknite starter plugs 30 and 50: if the starter rotates, check the wire 50 brought to the lock for break, also estimate a starter switch condition.
  3. The weight wire is torn off, or quality of its terminal connection is broken, the battery is discharged.
  4. Weakening of current owing to violation of quality or oxidation of contact connections takes place.
  5. There is no tension on the plug of the 50th traction relay as a result of break of an electrical wiring, or damage of the switch of a starter.
  6. The contact group of the lock of ignition is faulty.
  7. The relay or electric motor of a starter is faulty.
  8. The sensor switch of permission of start of AT/disconnection of a chain of a starter (RKPP) is faulty.

The starter rotates slowly and does not turn a bent shaft

Address the section Engine it is not turned in attempts of its start.

  1. The battery is discharged.
  2. In the engine oil is filled in excessively dense (for the current weather conditions).
  3. Contact sockets of an electrical wiring of sockets are weakened or oxidized.
  4. Coal brushes do not adjoin to a collector, podklinena in guides, are worn-out, broken, greasy or polluted.
  5. The distance between brushes and a collector is not enough.
  6. The collector in is covered with furrows, burned or was made oily.
  7. There is no tension on the plug 50 (at least 8 V).
  8. The bearing is broken.
  9. The traction relay is faulty.
  10. Internal mechanical damage of a starter takes place.

Diesel engine

  1. The returnable fuel-supply line is littered. Blow the pipeline air in the direction from TNVD to the fuel tank.
  2. Tightness of fuel system is broken. Visually check all fuel-supply lines (giving, returnable, pressure head), the fuel filter and TNVD. Check system for tightness.

Leak of fuel takes place and/or there is a gasoline smell

  1. Leaks in lines of supply of fuel / ventilating lines take place.

The engine is not started

Petrol models

  8. Vacuum hoses are damaged, or violation of tightness of their landing takes place.
  9. Pressure regulator is damaged, - check residual pressure.
  10. The sensor of provision of a butterfly valve (TPS) is damaged.
  11. There is no food on the block of electronic control by the engine (ECM).
  12. Ventilation of the fuel tank is hammered, the filter in a tank is littered.
  13. Preheat does not work.
  14. The valve of a cut-off of fuel of the diesel engine is damaged.

Diesel models

  1. Glow plugs do not work. Check.
  2. The fuel interruption in supply valve does not open. Check the cut-off valve, control units of the engine and the anticreeping alarm system.
  3. Malfunction in a fuel supply system takes place:
    • Passability of fuel-supply lines is broken;
    • The fuel filter is littered;
    • In the fuel filter or pipelines ice/wax accumulated (in winter season);
    • The path of ventilation of the fuel tank is littered, or passability of the filter in a tank is broken.

The cold engine is started badly, works unstably

  3. Pressure of fuel does not correspond to the required value.

The heated-up engine is badly started, works unstably

  1. Tightness of an inlet air path is broken. Without suppressing working at single turns the engine, moisten places of joints of elements of a path with gasoline, - if turns are quickly stabilized, eliminate untight places.

The engine works with interruptions

  1. Sporadic violation of quality of contact connections in an electrical wiring of the fuel pump takes place.   15. Tightness of an inlet air path is broken.
  16. Tightness of vacuum lines is broken.
  17. Pressure regulator is damaged, - check residual pressure.
  18. There is no food on the block of electronic control by the engine (ECM).

The engine works with interruptions in the transitional modes and in the idling mode

  1. Tightness of an inlet air path is broken. Without suppressing working at single turns the engine, moisten places of joints of elements of a path with gasoline, - if turns are quickly stabilized, eliminate untight places.
  2. Installation of turns of idling is broken.
  3. The sensor of full loading is faulty or incorrectly adjusted. Check the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve (TPS).

The hot engine is not started

  3. Passability of the returnable pipeline on the site between the regulator of pressure and the fuel tank is broken.

  5. Tightness of a fuel path is broken.
  6. Tightness of an inlet air path is broken.

The diesel engine unstably works at single turns and at the time of start-off of the car from the place

  1. Fastening of fuel hoses to TNVD and the fuel filter weakened.
  2. Points of connection to TNVD of the giving and returnable fuel-supply lines are mixed.

The engine continues to work after turning of a key in situation 0

  1. Tightness of injectors is broken.

Lubrication system

Cooling system

Overheat

  2. Epiploons of the water pump are damaged, - cooling liquid will exude through a control opening in a pump housing.
  3. Leaks from internal channels of the heat exchanger / the side tank(s) of a radiator take place.
  4. Leaks through a drain stopper of the engine, or release traffic jams of water galleries take place.

Internal leak of cooling liquid

Internal leak of cooling liquid usually comes to light by check of a condition of motive oil. Examine an edge of the measuring probe on existence of traces of moisture and foaming of oil.

  1. Leaks through laying of a head of cylinders take place, - make check of the cooling system pressure.
  2. There are cracks in walls of cylinders or in casting of a head.

There are losses of cooling liquid

  1. In system the excessive amount of cooling liquid is filled.
  2. Cooling liquid boils away as a result of an engine overheat.
  3. Internal or external leak of cooling liquid takes place (see Sections External leak of cooling liquid and Internal leak of cooling liquid).
  4. The radiator cover is faulty, - check a cover pressure.

Circulation of cooling liquid is broken

  1. The water pump does not function properly. Press the top hose of a radiator at the engine working at single turns, - if at an otpuskaniye of a hose the liquid push in it is felt, the pump functions regularly.
  2. Passability of the cooling system is broken. Merge cooling liquid (see the Head the Current leaving and service), wash out system and fill it with fresh mix. If there is such need, remove a radiator and carry out its obratnopotochny washing.
  3. The driving belt of the water pump is worn-out or damaged or adjustment of its tension is broken.
  4. The thermostat is jammed.

Systems of heating and air conditioning

The map of failure diagnostics of the K/V system is provided in the Section Diagnostics of Malfunctions, check of components of the K/V system of the Head of the Cooling system, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

The heater fan does not function

  1. The fan electric motor safety lock is beaten out.
  2. The fan switch is faulty, - make sure of serviceability of giving of power supply on resistive assembly, remove and check the fan switch.
  3. The driving electric motor is faulty. Check serviceability of giving of power supply for contact plugs of the motor of the fan at the included ignition and the closed fan switch, - if tension takes place, replace an electric motor.

The fan of a heater does not function in one of the high-speed modes

  1. Resistive assembly is faulty.

The heater is not switched off by the regulator

  1. The switch is faulty.
  2. The drive of the mixing gate is damaged.

The heater does not develop the required power

  1. Level of cooling liquid fell.
  2. The hummock drive of the operating gates is faulty.
  3. The thermostat is jammed in a closed position, - check indications of the measuring instrument of temperature of the engine.
  4. Passability of cooling liquid via the heater heat exchanger is broken.
  5. Serviceability of air supply is broken.
  6. Serviceability of functioning of the fan of a heater is broken.
  7. Heater heat exchanger plates are greasy.

Functioning of the fan is followed by the raised noise background

  7. The lamellar valve is damaged.
  8. The compressor is damaged.

The K/V system does not provide due efficiency of cooling of air

  1. Serviceability of functioning of the broad valve is broken.
  2. The operating heater valve is jammed in open situation.
  3. Pressure in a refrigerator path is not enough.
  4. Passability of the heat exchanger of the condenser/evaporator is broken.
  5. Components of the drive of management of functioning of systems of heating/air conditioning are faulty.
  6. Serviceability of air supply is broken.
  7. Gates of the choice of the modes of functioning of systems of heating/conditioning are jammed.
  8. Temperature of external air exceeds possibilities of the К/В system.

Coupling

Serviceability of switching off of coupling (at the pedal which is squeezed out to a floor inclusion/switching off of the reverse gear is complicated) is broken

  1. Adjustment of a free wheeling of a pedal of coupling is broken.

The box installed on neutral transfer publishes noise at the working engine

Leak of gearbox oil takes place

There is a blocking of a box on any of transfers

Automatic Transmission (AT)

In view of complexity of a design of AT it is desirable to make diagnostics of its malfunctions and repairs of components in a workshop of car service or representative office of the KIA company.

Procedures of diagnostics of an electronic control system of transmission and codes of malfunctions are provided in the Head Automatic transmission.

The common problems connected with functioning of the mechanism of switching

  1. It is possible to carry the following to number of the refusals connected with violation of adjustment of the drive of switching:
    • Start of the engine is possible at provisions of transmission, excellent from "Р" (Parking) and "N" (Neutral);
    • Indications of the indicator of provision of transmission differ from really chosen transfer;
    • The car moves at the transmission established in situation "P" or "N";
    • Transfers switch hardly, or is any.

Transmission revolves, switches hardly, publishes extraneous noises or does not provide the movement of the car at installation on one of lobbies, or the reverse gear

Leak of transmission liquid takes place

  1. ATF has dark red color. Traces of its leaks should not be confused to traces of motive oil which can be demolished on a transmission case by the running air stream.
  2. For identification and localization of a source of leak first of all remove all traces of dirt and lubricant from the boat AT. Use suitable degreaser and/or make steam cleaning.     • The ATF lines, - tighten nipple connections / replace defective tubes;
    • The ventilating tube, - transmission is crowded and/or moisture got to it.

ATF is painted in brown color and/or smells of ashes

  1. Level of transmission liquid is insufficient.

The kickdown mode does not join by full pressing a pedal

  1. The ATF level fell.
  2. The control system of the engine is faulty.
  3. The sensor switch of activation of the kickdown mode is faulty, or its electrical wiring is damaged.
  4. Adjustment of the drive of switching is broken.

The engine is not started at any position of the lever of the selector, or also "N" is started in provisions, excellent from "Р"

  1. Adjustment of the sensor switch of permission of start is broken.
  2. Serviceability of functioning of a control system of the engine is broken.

Switching of the modes of the transfer case is complicated

  1. Lubricant level fell in the transfer case.
  2. The switching fork is worn-out or damaged.
  3. Switching rods are worn-out, bent or damaged.
  4. Shaft are worn-out, bent or damaged.

The mode 4WD does not join

  1. The switching rod is bent or damaged.
  2. The lamp of the corresponding light indicator (the forward drive is connected, but the lamp does not work) fused, - replace a lamp.
  3. There was a break of a chain.
  4. There was a shift or damage of the lever of switching of the modes of the transfer case, - make the corresponding adjustment, or replace the lever.

During the movement there is a spontaneous shutdown of the forward drive

Excessive wear of protectors takes place

Leak of oil through epiploons of output shaft, or through a ventilating sapun takes place

  1. In the transfer case the excessive amount of oil is filled in.
  2. Passability of ventilating lines is broken.

During the movement there is a spontaneous turning on of the forward drive
