12.2. Assessment of a condition of components of a suspension bracket and steering drive

Suspension bracket


  1. Press a car front down, - if forward shock-absorbers are serviceable, then at an otpuskaniye the body has to return to a starting position without rocking. Similarly estimate a condition of back shock-absorbers. Pay also attention to existence of scratches, a gnash and the other foreign sounds made when rocking a body.
  2. Hang out the car above the ground and attentively check shock-absorbers and screw springs for existence of deformations, cracks, chips and other mechanical damages. Make sure of lack of signs of development of leakages of shock-absorbers.
  3. Estimate reliability of tightening of carving fixture of cross levers of a forward suspension bracket.
  4. Examine levers and bars of a suspension bracket on existence of signs of mechanical damages.
  5. Check a condition of all rubber plugs (levers, stabilizer racks, a jet bar) and boots of spherical support and hinges.

Steering drive

Do not hold a steering wheel at the working engine in extreme provisions within more than 15 seconds!


  1. Hang out the car above the ground and visually estimate a condition of drafts and levers of a steering trapeze. Make sure of lack of side plays and reliability of tightening of carving fixture. Check a condition of rubber plugs and boots of tips of steering drafts.
  1. Having pulled a steering wheel in various directions, make sure of absence axial and side side plays of a steering column. In case of need estimate degree of wear of the bearing and hinge of a steering shaft. Replace defective components.
  1. Develop forward wheels of the car in rectilinear situation and slightly turning a steering wheel to the right-to the left, estimate the size of its free wheeling. If the result of measurement exceeds the limit of the admissible range (5 ÷ 30 mm), attentively study a condition of all hinged knots of the steering drive, also check whether the side play of gearing of the steering mechanism increased excessively. Replace defective components.
  1. Tire out the car on the flat horizontal platform with a hard coating and develop its forward wheels in rectilinear situation.
  2. At the working engine several times turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop for the purpose of warming up of working liquid of system of hydrostrengthening (normal the working temperature of hydraulic liquid makes 50 ÷ 60 °C).
  1. Having left the engine working at single turns, pick up a dynamometer by the external end of a spoke of a steering wheel and measure effort of resistance of the last to rotation. If the result of measurement exceeds extreme admissible value (33 N), check the level of hydraulic liquid in the tank of the steering pump (see the Head the Current leaving and service), examine lines of a hydraulic path on existence of signs of development of leaks, make sure of serviceability of functioning of the pump GUR and steering mechanism, estimate correctness of a tension of a driving belt and check pressure of a rating of tires. Make necessary corrections. By "prokachivaniye" remove air from a hydraulic path of GUR (see the Section Removal and installation of components of assembly of the back bridge), in case of need make verification of the pressure head characteristic of the steering pump (see the Section Removal, check and installation of shock-absorbers and screw springs).
